Intellectual
Property Protection
OEM's
site IP protection as one of the most important factors
in their decision to transfer production to China. China
Array is fully aware of the importance of this issue and
makes every effort to safe guard a customer's intellectual
property.
China
Array Plastics is a US company and can execute contracts
and Nondisclosure Agreements covered by US law. A
customer's engineering IP resides at the company's US Engineering
Offices. The
company has US and Chinese legal
advisers that specialize in intellectual property issues.
The
injection molding facility in Wuhan is 100% owned by China
Array Plastics. In
China, tool making and injection
molding are kept as separate entities. Workers on the
shop floor are generally unaware of a product's end use.
Information provided to outside suppliers is limited to
the specific sub-component being procured.
Furthermore,
China Array's injection molding facilities are located in
Wuhan, China, 600 miles inland from the more hyperactive
coastal areas around Shanghai, to the east, or Shenzhen
and Guangzhou, to the south.
While
no company can guarantee 100% IP protection, China Array
by understanding the issues involved, being headquartered
in the US, maintaining internal fire-walls, and having a
geographic buffer from China's coastal areas, can assure
an OEM with a relatively high level of certainty that its
intellectual property is being protected by China Array.

OEM's
China
Array is an ideal solution for OEM's seeking to manufacture
High Performance Thermoplastics (HPTP) components
in China. The company handles a variety of high-end applications
for OEM's.
Due to higher
material and processing costs, High Performance Thermoplastics components
are more expensive than standard plastic component. If an OEM selects
to make a part from HPTP there is a reason behind the selection:
heat, wear, impact or chemical resistance, dimensional integrity,
weatherability, etc., meaning the component's performance is critical
to the application. To insure proper performance and quality of
the HPTP component an OEM needs an injection molder hat specializes
in molding these types of high end materials.

Engineering:
Molding HPTP requires HPTP engineers. Even the simple transfer of
an existing HPTP part's production from the US to China requires
a certain level of engineering know how. For new product development
top flight design, materials and processing engineers are imperative.
China Array's Materials and Processing Engineers came out of GE
Plastics (now Sabic Innovative Plastic) where many of today's high
performance thermoplastics were developed. Based in the US and China,
they coordinate production transfer and product development smoothly
between the two countries.
Processing:
High Performance Thermoplastics are high temperature and highly
temperamental (i.e. unique melt and flow characteristics). They
require specialized equipment for molding: for example, mold temperatures
are controlled with oil based controllers, as opposed to the water
controllers used for standard plastics; Injection molding machines
for HPTP have ceramic heater bands to cope with the material's high
melt temperatures; Screws and barrels must be top of the line to
withstand heat and abrasion. China Array's injection
molding facility is equipped with these requirements in mind.
Consistent
Quality
In addition
to understanding high-end plastics, China Array also understands
manufacturing in China. Over 28 years,
the company has perfected Quality
Control methods geared toward Chinese manufacturers that concentrates
on consistency of quality (historically a stumbling block
for Chinese manufacturers). The company's injection molding facility,
located in Wuhan, China, is a Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise (WOFE)
owned 100% by China Array Plastics, a US Corporation. This ownership
arrangement gives China Array complete production control and accountability.
Competitive
Costing
While quality
is the most important aspect of HPTP injection molding, China Array
is also competitive in costing. The company is staffed and managed
by Chinese nationals. It sells domestically to Chinese and multinational
firms, as well as exporting to western companies. Wuhan,
a major manufacturing city in central China located well inland
from the country's high cost coastal cities, possesses a large pool
of highly skilled, low cost labor. China Array offers OEM's an excellent
combination of engineering and production capabilities at competitive
costs.
Smooth
transition
A western OEM
faced with moving production to China has various options: find
a Chinese partner, sometimes a difficult proposition with issues
of quality and IP protection; set up its own manufacturing facility,
an option requiring significant investment in money and management
resources (resources that may not be well versed in doing business
in China); or outsourcing to one of the large multinational injection
molding companies, which may or may not be interested in smaller,
high performance plastics projects.
China Array,
as a boutique producer specializing in molding high performance
resins, can offer an OEM significant engineering and molding capabilities
focused on the its particular products with a strong continuing
liaison between the OEM and China Array. And, the company can have
an OEM's project up and running in a reasonable time period with
a minimum drain on the OEM's management time.
Distribution,
Logistics and Supply Chain management
Distribution
is still in its infancy in China and bears scant resemblance to
what an OEM would call distribution in the US or Europe. Over
28 years, China Array has developed a strong capability in distribution,
supply chain management and logistics. It has a strong team of legal,
accounting, and domestic and foreign trade personnel to handle shipping,
invoicing, and the attendant bureaucracy in China. The company also
has a broad network of trusted vendors within the manufacturing
community to draw on for advice and/or outsourcing of specialized
products and services.
Accessories:
Frequently high performance thermoplastics components are used in
conjuntion with non-plastic accessories (steel, ceramic, silicone,
rubber etc.). China Array's manufacturing experience outside the
plastics industry allows it to produce in-house or source non-plastic
components better than most injection molders. And, the firm's HPTP
engineers insure that accessories will work with well with the specific
plastic component for which they are intended.
Mission
Statement: To provide customers expert engineering, design and materials
advice , and a fully integrated molding operation for a consistently
superior product at a competitive price.
